Attracting skilled migrant to work in industry sectors and regions where there are known to be shortages of highly skilled workers will be the main focus of Australia’s revised immigration program and SOL (Skilled Occupations List). Health care, engineering and mining are sectors currently experiencing quantifiable skills shortages.
The Minister revoked the MODL and announced that a new SOL is to be introduced later this year, is being developed by an independent body, Skills Australia. The new SOL will review annually.
“About 20, 000” offshore visa applicants whose skills and English language do not meet the requirements will be refunded visa application charges upon withdrawal of their applications.
